Program Officer for Grants

Job Summary

To support a growing program, the full-time Program Officer for Grants will evaluate funding opportunities, actively manage grants, and help shape the Institutional Grants program focused on enhancing AI journalism capacity, with remote work options available.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate funding opportunities by assessing teams' track records and budgets for prospective grants
• Identify and initiate important AI journalism projects through various sourcing methods
• Manage relationships with grantees, providing support and assessments throughout the grant lifecycle

Required qualifications

• Substantial experience in journalism or deep knowledge of AI safety and governance
• Track record of making consequential funding decisions based on incomplete evidence
• Ability to articulate the difference between impactful journalism and less effective coverage
• Experience engaging with executive editors and media founders on significant funding commitments
• Strong writing skills for crafting concise and persuasive funding recommendations
