Referral Specialist

Job Summary

Supporting Banner-ordered referrals in a remote capacity, the full-time Referral Specialist will coordinate referral orders, manage patient communications, and ensure timely authorization processes while leveraging knowledge of Cerner's referral management tool and insurance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Schedules appointments for specialty services and diagnostic testing as requested by providers, ensuring timely communication with patients
• Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, and staff to address referral and follow-up needs, providing education and external resources as necessary
• Tracks and manages referrals, monitoring outstanding cases and following up with patients to close care gaps

Required qualifications

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge
• At least 1 year of direct patient interaction or experience in a medical, insurance, or healthcare-related industry
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and strong customer service focus
• Proficiency with commonly used office software
• Understanding of managed care concepts and medical terminology is preferred
