Job Summary

Virtual Vocations, an established membership-based remote niche job board, is looking for a new freelance team member to join our Content Department. As a Remote Freelance Editor, you will have the flexibility to work from anywhere and will not be asked to travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Freelance Editor will be responsible for editing blog posts and articles, text for PDFs and guides, web content, and more. Content will be published to the company website, various news sites, and blogs in order to help us reach more jobseekers and grow within the remote work vertical. Along with editing text, the Freelance Editor will be tasked with prepping blog posts for publication within WordPress including completing all elements of the Yoast SEO plugin. The Freelance Editor will be expected to emulate our preferred tone and style as well as adhere to our in-house style guide. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to meet strict deadlines, and available to make changes as needed possibly on a quick turn-around.

Ideal applicants will have documented editing and writing experience. We are especially interested in candidates with experience writing on topics like telecommuting, careers, business, finance, or technology.

REQUIREMENTS

- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or evidence of some college study and equivalent work experience in a writing and/or editing profession
- Published writing samples and/or examples of published content edited by the applicant
- Expertise using WordPress (Gutenberg Block Editor), including reusable blocks and the Yoast SEO plugin
- Knowledge of SEO, keywording, tagging, and other elements essential to successful online content delivery and performance
- Strong writing skills as well as the ability to follow company style guidelines or guidelines set by other outlets where we want company content to appear
- Understanding of the AP Stylebook

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience creating featured images in Canva, or a similar program
- Knowledge of telecommuting job industries and the remote work lifestyle
- Familiarity with remote collaboration tools like Slack and Basecamp
- Passion for remote work
- Professional demeanor in online correspondence
- Applicants with previous remote work experience are heavily preferred

This is a contract position. Compensation is $17 per hour for 10-15 hours of work per week, with potential for an increase to $18 per hour after 90 days, if editing duties are consistently achieving a high quality standard.
