Senior Backend Software Engineer

Job Summary

To support the development of Affirm's AI systems, the remote Senior Backend Software Engineer will plan, execute, and manage technical projects, design and build scalable AI infrastructure, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure operational health and governance of AI workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and own technical decisions and projects within the AI Platform team from design through launch
• Design and build gateway, runtime, and evaluation services for AI workloads, ensuring secure scaling across millions of users
• Create and monitor metrics for system performance, owning operational health, monitoring, and alerting processes

Required qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing and developing backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
• Experience with highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
• Practical experience with LLMs, agents, or AI frameworks in production environments
• Proven ability to define technical plans for significant feature delivery with elegant and extensible designs
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
