Senior Instrument Scientist

Job Summary

Owning the simulation and modeling processes, the remote Senior Instrument Scientist will develop and maintain end-to-end instrument performance simulations, build virtual instrument representations, and define flight software inputs, contributing to the performance prediction of on-orbit hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain end-to-end instrument performance simulations, linking optical, detector, and scanner physics to predicted on-orbit capability
• Build and maintain virtual instrument and digital twin representations of on-orbit hardware, ensuring alignment with as-built performance
• Support on-orbit performance monitoring and anomaly investigation, participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation for anomaly resolution

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's, Master's, or doctoral degree in engineering, physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience coding and simulating performance for imaging systems or comparable electro-optical hardware
• Experience building instrument performance models or simulations, including radiometric, geometric, or systems-level
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Julia, or C++, with experience in maintaining a shared codebase
• Strong ability to translate performance predictions into requirements across various teams
