Senior Production Editor

Job Summary

Managing the production editorial process for approximately 35 to 40 books annually, the full-time Senior Production Editor will oversee manuscript assessments, hire and manage freelancers, and ensure quality control throughout the bookmaking process in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Handle production editorial work for original fiction and nonfiction titles from manuscript to bound book
• Hire freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers, and review their work through all stages of production
• Collaborate with Production, Design, and Editorial departments to ensure compliance with schedules and quality standards

Required qualifications

• Seven to ten years of experience as a production editor in adult trade fiction/nonfiction
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Workflow/Metadata systems
• Expertise in grammar and punctuation, particularly with the Chicago Manual of Style
• Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively
