Senior Software Engineer

Job Summary

Focused on developing and scaling Blackbird, the full-time Senior Software Engineer will work remotely to enhance GitHub's code search infrastructure through automation, CI/CD, and observability while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own and advocate for the health and quality of the systems, participating in on-call and first responder rotations
• Drive efforts to collect and analyze data on system health and product refinement through data analytics
• Design and implement APIs and utilize CI/CD tools to set up automated pipelines for continuous integration and delivery

Required qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
• Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, depending on experience level
• Strong experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps practices
• Ability to work autonomously and set technical direction within a collaborative team environment
• Experience in systems programming, search index internals, and information retrieval is preferred
