Senior Software Engineer - COBOL
Job Summary
Supporting the Long Term Care policy administration system, the full-time Senior Software Engineer - COBOL will monitor and resolve system issues, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and implement technical solutions while working remotely or in a hybrid capacity for Virginia residents.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and resolve system failures, job abends, and policy-related incidents for the CLOAS application
- Analyze user-reported incidents and propose solutions to ensure business continuity
- Design, code, document, and test solutions while adhering to change control processes and supporting testing activities
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in mainframe programming (COBOL, JCL, CICS, IMS) with production support experience in the insurance/finance domain
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex business logic and system impacts
- Basic experience with SQL and data analysis
- Experience working in a cross-functional team environment on complex mainframe systems
- Continuous improvement mindset and adaptability to new technologies
