Job Summary
As a hands-on technical leader, the fully remote Senior Staff Data Engineer will define and own the multi-year data strategy and architecture for foundational data assets, focusing on building datasets that integrate cost, utilization, and performance signals across Airbnb's infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across data engineering and analytics engineering efforts, focusing on cloud cost, traffic, and infrastructure intelligence
- Design and build datasets from the ground up, integrating various performance and reliability signals
- Influence and coach a distributed team of Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers through design and code reviews
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of relevant industry experience with a BS/Masters, or 9+ years with a PhD, in data engineering or a closely related field
- Proven experience designing, building, and operating large-scale production data pipelines with strong SQL and Python skills
- Ability to design dimensional models and define reliable metrics
- Experience leading technical direction for teams or programs without formal authority
- Track record of building data products from scratch and gaining cross-team adoption
