Senior Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Owning the architecture and roadmap for search and recommendations, the full-time Senior Staff Software Engineer will manage query understanding, retrieval, ranking, and quality metrics in a remote setting.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the end-to-end architecture for search and recommendations, including query understanding and ranking
• Establish and measure relevance metrics, conducting online experiments to inform ranking changes
• Manage OpenSearch in production, ensuring optimal performance and operational headroom for discovery surfaces

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in building production software with a focus on search, ranking, or ML-driven relevance
• Hands-on expertise with production search engines like OpenSearch or Elasticsearch
• Proven experience in relevance measurement and A/B testing frameworks
• Fluency in the recommender stack, including candidate generation and feature pipelines
• Strong background in distributed systems and backend development, with proficiency in Go or a similar language
