Senior Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

Shaping technical strategy and building scalable systems, the full-time Senior Staff Software Engineer will focus on Nextdoor's monetization platform and subscription products while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Define the technical strategy and architecture for the monetization platform, leading complex initiatives from concept to measurable outcomes
• Build scalable, reliable, secure, and privacy-preserving systems that support advertising and subscription products
• Partner with Product, ML, Data Science, and Engineering to shape roadmaps and deliver value for users and businesses

Required qualifications

• Exceptional system design skills with a proven record of building scalable, high-performance distributed systems
• Deep experience in building advertising platforms and understanding large-scale native ad-serving systems
• Expert-level proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Java, Kotlin, or Python
• Extensive experience with large-scale, real-time data pipelines using Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or Kafka Streams
• A strong record of mentoring senior engineers and raising the engineering standards across teams
