Senior Systems Engineer
Job Summary
Seeking a full-time Senior Systems Engineer to join the Database Infrastructure team remotely, where the engineer will design and build core components of GitHub's database platform, serve as a subject matter expert on database internals, and improve replication topology and failover automation.
Key responsibilities
- Design and build core components of the database platform across self-managed and cloud-managed infrastructure
- Support engineering teams through design reviews and integrate their database needs into team planning
- Operate and enhance replication topology, failover automation, and contribute to capacity planning for the database fleet
Required qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in Software Engineering or a related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding in languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python
- Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- Strong expertise with MySQL internals and familiarity with database sharding in production
- Experience with Microsoft Azure or another major cloud provider
- Experience contributing to large-scale database infrastructure migrations
