Job Summary
To enhance clinical documentation accuracy and optimize reimbursement, the full-time South Carolina Licensed Outpatient CDI Specialist will conduct reviews of outpatient medical records, collaborate with healthcare providers, and ensure compliance with coding guidelines in a hybrid work environment.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of medical records to capture patient severity and medical necessity
- Accurately assign ICD-10 CM codes for various outpatient encounters and ensure coding accuracy meets standards
- Collaborate with clinical providers to educate on documentation best practices and address any discrepancies
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution and licensure as a registered nurse in South Carolina
- At least five years of clinical nursing experience, with a preference for experience in CDI or coding
- Strong knowledge of clinical documentation improvement and outpatient Hierarchical Condition Category (HCC) coding
- Experience in an outpatient or acute care setting is required
- Active certification in coding or documentation improvement is preferred, or the ability to obtain one within the first year of employment
