Special Projects Director

Job Summary

Leading the growth and strategy of the Special Projects program, the full-time Special Projects Director will manage a team, oversee project sponsorships, and establish frameworks for risk and compliance while working remotely within UTC-5 to UTC+2 time zones.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the overall strategy and roadmap for the Special Projects program, including project selection and graduation criteria
• Establish a formal risk assessment framework and serve as a senior escalation point for compliance matters
• Manage the Special Project Managers and build organizational capacity as the team scales

Required Qualifications

• Solid experience in an operations role, particularly in HR, legal, or finance, with knowledge of US 501(c)(3) regulations
• Familiarity with effective altruism and at least one of the organization's focus areas (AI safety, animal welfare, global health)
• Experience in people management, including managing managers within a scaling team
• Project/program management experience for large and varied portfolios
• Understanding of fiscal sponsorship structures and financial sustainability models
