Staff Engineer, Data Platform
Job Summary
Leading architecture and technical decision-making across the end-to-end data lifecycle, the full-time Staff Engineer, Data Platform will modernize the platform supporting internal products and customers, improve data reliability and scalability, and mentor engineers, with the option to work remotely or from the Chicago-based hub.
Key responsibilities
- Lead architecture and technical decision-making for data ingestion, preparation, visualization, and consumption
- Drive modern engineering approaches through proofs of concept and technology evaluations
- Guide major initiatives to enhance data streaming, observability, and database architecture
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong technical impact
- Deep experience in data-focused software engineering across the data lifecycle
- Strong cloud data platform experience in Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure
- Hands-on programming experience with Python, Go, or similar languages, plus strong SQL skills
- Experience leading complex platform design or migration decisions with clear communication of tradeoffs
