Staff Software Engineer
Job Summary
To support the Datastore team, the full-time remote Staff Software Engineer will design and scale backend systems for data infrastructure, focusing on PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs to enhance the usability of clinical data.
Key responsibilities
- Lead design and architecture for complex projects and systems within the Datastore, making data-driven implementation trade-offs
- Collaborate with product managers and scientific stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data platform solutions
- Mentor other engineers and contribute to team planning, ensuring high standards for data integrity and maintainability
Required qualifications
- 7+ years of backend development experience, with at least 3 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure
- Strong proficiency in SQL and production experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization
- Hands-on experience with data streaming and event processing using Kafka or similar technologies
- Proficiency in Julia or Python, with a willingness to learn Julia if not already experienced
- Experience deploying services in containerized environments, familiar with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools
