Staff Software Engineer
Job Summary
Leading architecture and delivery for Axios' core products, the full-time remote Staff Software Engineer will drive multi-quarter initiatives while remaining hands-on in developing and improving full-stack systems across multiple teams using AI-native practices.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead mission-critical initiatives across teams, aligning ownership and dependencies while driving production adoption
- Own architecture and design for product areas, establishing standards and leading design reviews
- Maintain technical direction and evolution of key systems through coding, debugging, and operating services in production
Required qualifications:
- Typically 7+ years in professional software development with experience leading complex initiatives across multiple teams or systems
- Hands-on experience with AI-native development tools and agentic coding practices
- Proficiency in frontend development with JavaScript or TypeScript and React, preferably with Next.js
- Experience with backend development, particularly in Go and Python, and building production services and APIs
- Strong understanding of data fundamentals, including SQL, schema design, and migrations
