Staff Software Engineer
Job Summary
Leading technical initiatives, the full-time Staff Software Engineer will design and deliver scalable software solutions for the Scheduling product within Toast's Team Management Suite, collaborating remotely with cross-functional teams to enhance employee engagement and operational efficiency in restaurants.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable software solutions to optimize labor planning for restaurant owners
- Participate in architectural discussions and influence the technical roadmap while collaborating with design and product teams
- Champion engineering excellence and leverage AI tools to improve development workflows and product quality
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of back-end experience in Java, Kotlin, or other object-oriented languages
- Proficient in modern API design (TypeScript, REST, GraphQL) and relational databases or alternative data stores (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB)
- Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to drive cross-team alignment
- Experience in maintaining high-quality deliverables and building partnerships across various stakeholders
- Strong customer empathy and a commitment to enhancing user experience through robust technical solutions
