Job Summary
Seeking a full-time Staff Software Engineer to develop, scale, and operate GitHub's code search engine, Blackbird, in a remote environment, while integrating AI-powered workflows and enhancing the collaboration experience for millions of developers.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and ship high-quality technical solutions that scale across multiple GitHub services
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, encouraging the growth of team members through code reviews and collaborative opportunities
- Own the health and quality of systems built by the team, participating in on-call rotations and addressing live incidents
Required qualifications
- 9+ years of experience in Software Engineering or related technical discipline with proven experience in production software coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python
- Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Computer Science or related field with corresponding years of experience in software engineering
- Strong experience with distributed systems, search at scale, or reliability engineering
- Ability to work autonomously and set technical direction within a collaborative team environment
- Experience designing and implementing APIs for seamless integration between software components
