Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

To lead the design and evolution of the search backend, the full-time Staff Software Engineer will work remotely, focusing on scalable backend services, RESTful APIs in Python, and Elasticsearch query optimization while mentoring senior engineers and driving cross-team initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the design and evolution of the search backend, improving scalability, reliability, and maintainability
• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs in Python (FastAPI) for search functionalities
• Drive the health and throughput of event-driven indexing pipelines and design data workflows for ranking signals and search suggestions

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience focused on backend development, or equivalent experience with advanced degrees
• Expert-level proficiency in Python with production experience in scalable backend services
• Production experience with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, including query DSL and performance tuning
• Experience deploying and operating containerized services on Kubernetes
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture, and distributed systems
