Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and compliance, the full-time State Licensed Inpatient Coder will review medical records, assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, and collaborate with clinical teams, all while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Extracts and analyzes clinical information to translate data into appropriate codes for hospital billing and compliance
- Reviews medical records to accurately assign ICD-10 diagnoses and procedure codes, ensuring correct MS-DRG or APR-DRG assignment
- Collaborates with Clinical Documentation Specialists to clarify documentation and maintain coding accuracy and compliance
Required qualifications
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Management Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Minimum one (1) year of recent facility coding experience
- High School Diploma/GED; Associate Degree in Health Information Technology/Management preferred
- Must pass departmental coding testing with a score of 80% or better
- Experience in a major academic medical center and familiarity with ICD-10-CM/PCS preferred
