State Licensed Legal Counsel

Job Summary

As the first and sole State Licensed Legal Counsel in a full-time remote position, the candidate will own end-to-end legal and compliance functions for a growing fintech startup, focusing on launching new products while ensuring minimal regulatory obligations and maintaining existing operations.

Key responsibilities

• Stand up new products by collaborating with product and engineering teams to ensure minimal licensing and obligations
• Maintain and enhance existing legal and compliance operations, focusing on automation and efficiency
• Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners, regulators, and auditors to ensure compliance and operational clarity

Required qualifications

• JD and active bar admission in a US state
• Prior legal or compliance experience in a fast-growing fintech startup
• Mid-career experience managing a regulated consumer product throughout its lifecycle
• Multidisciplinary background with experience in business, engineering, or product roles
• Hands-on knowledge of consumer finance regulations and compliance frameworks
