Job Summary
To support remediation of scientific and technical academic content, the part-time remote STEM and Complex Document Accessibility Specialist will manage the accessibility of complex documents, including research papers and STEM course materials, ensuring compliance with applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Remediate STEM and technical documents to meet accessibility standards
- Create accessible mathematical equations using MathML and develop alternative text for complex diagrams
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts to ensure technical accuracy and perform manual validation of accessible content
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience remediating complex scientific, technical, or mathematical documents
- Working knowledge of MathML and accessibility standards such as PDF/UA and WCAG 2.1 AA
- Proficiency with PDF remediation tools and Microsoft Office accessibility features
- Experience in higher education or technical government environments
- Ability to develop accessible representations of complex charts, equations, and graphics
