Surgical Coder

Job Summary

To support accurate medical billing, the remote Surgical Coder will review patient medical records, translate information into appropriate codes for insurance claims, and resolve complex coding questions while ensuring compliance with legal standards.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate medical record documentation and coding to optimize reimbursement and ensure compliance with guidelines
• Interpret medical information to accurately assign and sequence ICD-10 and CPT codes
• Provide technical guidance to staff in resolving coding issues and conduct peer reviews for accuracy

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate's Degree in Medical Billing and Coding preferred
• 2-3 years of experience in medical coding
• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
• Strong understanding of coding guidelines and industry best practices
• Ability to work independently and manage complex coding situations
