Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and billing, the remote Texas Licensed Coding Specialist will code, abstract, and conduct charge quality reviews for emergency department, same day surgery, outpatient clinic, observation, and inpatient OB/newborn encounters while maintaining a 95% accuracy rate.
Key responsibilities
- Code and abstract all episodes of care according to coding conventions and hospital policy, analyzing documentation for accuracy
- Assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other relevant coding systems
- Maintain knowledge of coding regulations and participate in continuous education to stay updated with industry trends
Required qualifications
- High school diploma and completion of an approved coding program or graduation from a Health Information Management program
- Two years of coding experience in an acute care setting or diverse clinical specialties
- Certification from AHIMA (e.g., CCS, RHIT) or AAPC (e.g., CPC, COC)
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Proficiency in coding software and tools, including MS Office and Computer Assisted Coding (CAC)
