Underwriter Team Lead

Job Summary

Serving as a senior individual contributor, the full-time remote Underwriter Team Lead will evaluate large, complex, and higher-risk merchant accounts while providing guidance to the underwriting team and ensuring sound risk-based decisions are made within delegated authority.

Key responsibilities:

• Underwrite and manage large, complex, and higher-risk merchant accounts, exercising independent judgment to evaluate various risks and make decisions
• Provide guidance and training to underwriters on policies, procedures, and complex risk situations, enhancing their capabilities
• Identify emerging risks and contribute to the development of underwriting practices, ensuring consistent application of standards across the organization

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, with 10+ years in underwriting, credit, risk, payments, or financial services
• Deep knowledge of merchant acquiring, payment processing, credit underwriting, and fraud detection
• Demonstrated ability to assess complex financial and operational risks independently
• Strong understanding of risk-mitigation tools and Card Brand requirements
• Exceptional analytical skills with proficiency in underwriting and risk-management systems
