Underwriting Consultant
Job Summary
To support a growing underwriting team, the remote Underwriting Consultant will review and classify life insurance applications, make independent decisions on risk acceptability, and mentor less experienced underwriters while maintaining positive relationships with brokers and partners.
Key responsibilities
- Review life insurance applications and determine acceptability while detecting potential fraud
- Communicate decisions and provide counsel to brokers and agency offices to foster confidence and encourage future business
- Mentor and coach less experienced underwriters, assisting with their development and decision-making processes
Required qualifications
- BS/BA degree or applicable experience; FLMI, FALU, or CLU designation preferred
- Minimum of 8 years of underwriting experience, including large case and substandard case underwriting
- Proficient in financial underwriting and understanding of medical terminology and business financial documents
- Ability to make independent decisions regarding life insurance applications in real-time
- Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring underwriters, with advanced technical underwriting knowledge
