Job Summary

Providing specialized technical support, the full-time Master Course Approval Subject Matter Expert (Top-Level Deck Mariner) will evaluate maritime training courses and ensure compliance with national regulations and international standards, with flexibility to work remotely or onsite in Martinsburg, WV.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate maritime training provider courses, curricula, training sites, and instructors for regulatory compliance
• Formulate recommendations and draft formal responses for the Coast Guard based on evaluations
• Maintain a high volume of quality evaluations, processing a minimum of 20 course approvals per month

Required qualifications

• Must hold or have previously held a U.S. Coast Guard-issued Merchant Mariner Credential endorsed as Master of Unlimited Tonnage upon Oceans or Chief Mate of Unlimited Tonnage upon Oceans
• A minimum of 5 years of experience sailing on the required credential
• Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable security screening/USCG Suitability
• Advanced understanding of maritime regulations and Coast Guard policies
• Exceptional written communication skills for drafting official correspondence and technical recommendations
