Job Summary
To support a growing consumer-finance business, the full-time Virginia Licensed Assistant General Counsel will manage external legal matters, including litigation, regulatory examinations, and provide strategic legal counsel, with options for remote work or office presence in Arlington or Richmond, Virginia.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and manage individual and class-action litigation, arbitration, and other adversarial matters throughout their lifecycle
- Support regulatory examinations and escalated legal complaints, developing response strategies in collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Serve as a legal advisor on strategic business initiatives, assessing legal risks and providing practical recommendations to senior leadership
Required qualifications
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Virginia or the District of Columbia
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, financial institution, fintech company, or regulatory agency
- Experience in fintech, high-growth lending, or regulated environments, particularly with lease-to-own or non-prime lending products
- Significant experience managing complex litigation and regulatory investigations
- Strong knowledge of federal and state consumer-financial-services laws and regulations
