Wildland Fire Risk Scientist
Job Summary
Seeking a full-time Wildland Fire Risk Scientist, the position will focus on providing advanced scientific and geospatial research support to assess wildfire exposure and risk to buildings and the wildland-urban interface, utilizing remote sensing, GIS, statistical analysis, and machine learning, while working remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advance research in wildfire exposure and risk to inform assessments and mitigation strategies
- Develop methods to predict wildfire damage using simulation models and machine learning
- Lead the publication of journal articles related to wildfire risk research
Required Qualifications:
- PhD, advanced degree, or equivalent experience in ecology, fire science, or a related field
- 3-5 years of recent experience in fire ecology and knowledge of plant community dynamics
- Advanced understanding of fuel types and their effects on wildland fire behavior
- Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS
- Proficiency in Python and R for model development and data analysis
