About Oregon

Nicknamed “The Beaver State,” three of Oregon’s cities made Livability’s 2018 Top 50 Place to Live.  Although Oregon’s economy was historically based in fishing, timber, and agriculture, more recently, Oregonians have entered the technology, service, and manufacturing industries. The state is also known for its hazelnut and berry production and its wide-scale winemaking, with more than 750 wineries. Portland, the state’s largest city, is also home to more breweries than any other city in the world. Rich in cultural history, more than 50 Native American tribes once inhabited the land that today is Oregon. In tribute to this heritage, Oregon frequently hosts Pow-Wows and other related events. Oregon is also home to the famous NBA Trailblazers (fittingly named!).

Oregon’s estimated 4.2 million residents have extraordinary opportunities for leisure and fitness, including direct access to its popular Columbia River Gorge and other hiking/trail running opportunities, surf and swim beaches, and skiing in areas like Mt.Hood, the location of Timberline Lodge, which was used as the backdrop for the movie “The Shining.” The state also has an expansive list of higher education institutions, some of which have gained national recognition. Another impressive Oregon quality is its community’s commitment to the green movement, with solar and wind resource potential that surpasses that of both Germany and Denmark.

“Oregon is an inspiration. Whether you come to it, or are born to it, you become entranced by our state’s beauty, the opportunity she affords, and the independent spirit of her citizens.” – Tom McCall, American politician, statesman, and journalist

Working from home has its challenges. As an innovative startup, a freelancer or contractor, or even a member of a distributed team, you can offset some of the downsides of working remotely by investing in a membership at a coworking space.

Certain centers even provide professional development and the opportunity to be paired with a mentor. Center amenities, such as ultra-high-speed internet, closed-door offices (free of screaming children),  a professional mailing address, cafes with snacks and coffee (and sometimes alcohol) at your fingertips, help limit distractions and improve productivity. If you’ve never tried or toured a coworking facility, consider investigating spaces in your area and how they might just benefit you.
