About Idaho

Nicknamed the “Gem State,” Idaho is known for beautiful gemstones that can be found there, including the rare star garnet. The state is also famous for its most prolific crop, the Idaho potato. However, there is a lot more to Idaho than gemstones and potatoes. Perhaps most impressive is the rugged beauty of the landscape. A significant portion of the state’s lands has been set aside as protected forest and national and state parks. These set the stage for some of the best skiing, hiking, kayaking, and river rafting opportunities in the country.

“Ahead and to the west was our ranger station—and the mountains of Idaho, poems of geology stretching beyond any boundaries and seemingly even beyond the world.” – Norman Maclean, Author
