Remote work is no longer the exception to the rule of working from a traditional, onsite office. In fact, remote jobs are a top consideration jobseekers evaluate when job hunting. Virtual Vocations’ Job Satisfaction Survey, which was conducted during January 2022, found that remote job options are the top employer provided benefit that employees want most this year. The in-demand status of remote jobs, however, doesn’t mean workers should (or are willing to) settle by working for any company touting a home-based work arrangement. Every employee deserves to work for an employer that values their contributions, facilitates positive company culture, and respects their desire for flexibility in life and work.
Glassdoor’s “Best Places to Work 2022” List
Glassdoor, a web resource that offers straight-from-the-source insights on work environments, salaries, and CEOs, populates an annual list of the “Best Places to Work.” Glassdoor’s ranking is based on employee feedback relevant to the following nine workplace criteria:
- Overall company rating
- Job opportunities
- Diversity and inclusion
- Wages and benefits
- Senior management
- Company culture and values
- Work-life balance
- Whether they would recommend the company to a friend
- Six-month business outlook
All companies featured in Glassdoor’s “Best Places to Work” report, which evaluates large companies based in the U.S., received at least 75 ratings from employees. This list is a valuable resource for any jobseeker beginning their search or looking for new inspiration, but we were curious about how many of the companies from Glassdoor’s 2022 list offer remote job options.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) also reports strong information technology jobs numbers and faster than average job growth for IT roles through 2030. Throughout the decade, IT jobs are projected to grow at a rate of 13%. Jobseekers will also be pleased with wages for computer and information technology occupations, which pay out at an average of $97,430 annually.

Much faster than average job growth is expected for healthcare jobs, which are in high demand in the U.S. due to an aging population and the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, from 2020 to 2030, healthcare occupations are predicted to grow by 16%; this will equal approximately 2.6 million new jobs added during the decade. When it comes to average wages, healthcare practitioners and technicians can expect to earn $75,040 annually. Meanwhile, healthcare support professionals won’t earn nearly as much; home health aides and medical transcriptionists, for example, earn an average annual salary of $29,880, according to the BLS, which is below the average salary for all U.S. occupations.

The BLS expects pharmaceutical roles to experience negative job growth, but this isn’t necessarily bad news for jobseekers interested in remote pharmacy careers. An average of 11,300 pharmaceutical job openings are projected to be added to the economy each year through 2030. A -2% decline in pharmacy jobs is attributed to a reduction in the number of physical pharmacy retail locations. However, with more prescription orders placed online, there will be a need for remote professionals to take patient information, fill prescription and medical device orders, and verify the work of pharmacy technicians.
Similar to occupations under the broader healthcare umbrella, average wages for pharmaceutical careers widely vary. Pharmacy technicians earn an average of $36,740 per year, according to BLS data, while pharmacists earn an average annual salary of $128,570.
