Virtual Vocations added nearly 600,000 remote job postings to our database in 2021, setting a company record. This report on the key companies to watch for remote jobs in 2022 recognizes employers who continued to hire amid COVID-19, some of which posted thousands of remote job openings in the last year alone.
CEO’s Statement on Companies to Watch for Remote Jobs in 2022
Although we’ve now entered the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, Laura Spawn, CEO and Co-Founder of Virtual Vocations, is confident in the continued upward trend of remote hiring and the ways companies have integrated remote work as a permanent part of their business models. Concerning the “Top 100 Companies to Watch for Remote Jobs in 2022” report, Spawn said,
The Great Resignation of U.S. workers during 2021 has proven employee power and solidified the status of the U.S. job market as candidate-driven. Remote work is here to stay for the long term. For companies to remain competitive and retain their top talent, remote job options are essential. Thus far, we have witnessed top businesses and organizations fully embrace the demand for remote work arrangements. During 2021, Virtual Vocations saw a 29% increase in the number of remote jobs vetted and posted to our job board. Approximately 12% of those remote job postings were sourced from the top 100 companies featured in this year’s list.

Methodology and Key Findings from the Report
To populate our list of the “Top 100 Companies to Watch for Remote Jobs in 2022,” we analyzed our annual remote jobs database statistics from January 1–December 31, 2021 to determine from which companies we sourced the most available remote job openings. Our examination of 2021 statistics on remote-enabled employers who hired throughout the year included key data and trends like the following:
- All employers featured in our top 100 list are direct hiring companies, not staffing agencies.
- More than 72,000 remote job postings from the “Top 100 Companies to Watch for Remote Jobs in 2022” were shared to the Virtual Vocations Job Board throughout the year.
- 21 remote-friendly career industries are represented among the top 100 companies.
- The three best industries for remote jobs represented by the top 100 companies are information technology, healthcare, and financial/accounting.
- 12.26% of all remote job openings posted to the Virtual Vocations Job Board in 2021 were sourced from the top 100 companies.
- 92 of the top 100 companies for 2022 are based in the U.S., with California, Virginia, and Massachusetts ranking as the states with the most top 100 companies HQs.
- International HQs for the top 100 companies are found in Canada, Ireland, England, France, the Netherlands, Japan, and Australia.

3 Best Industries for Remote Jobs in 2022
Information technology, healthcare, and financial/accounting are the top three industries represented within our 100 best companies for 2022 list. More than half of the top 100 companies (52%) represent these industries. We also included data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) concerning occupational performance outlooks for these top three remote work categories.
Best Information Technology Companies with Remote Jobs
Jobs for computer and information technology professionals are predicted to grow by 13% from 2020 to 2030, according to the BLS. The much faster than average career growth for IT roles will be driven by in-demand positions in cloud computing, information security, and big data. More than 667,000 jobs in this remote work-friendly field will be added to the U.S. economy by the end of the decade. As of May 2020, the median annual wage for IT careers was $91,250—more than double the median annual salary for all U.S. occupations.

Best Healthcare Companies with Remote Jobs
Healthcare occupations are projected to increase at a rate of 16% from 2020 to 2030. This industry growth will be fueled, at least in part, by the need for healthcare professionals and support staff amid continued efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S., as well as contend with potential long-term health consequences patients may have to contend with in the future. At 16%, the occupational growth rate for healthcare careers is much faster than average compared to all other U.S. occupations, according to BLS predictions. By the end of the decade, approximately 2.6 million new healthcare jobs will be added to the economy.

Best Financial & Accounting Companies with Remote Jobs
Financial careers will experience slightly above average job growth during the decade. The BLS projects financial occupations will increase at a rate of 8% this decade. Jobs in financial analytics will grow by 6%; accounting and auditing positions will grow by 7%, and roles for personal financial planners will increase by 5%. Occupations for tax examiners, tax collectors, and revenue agents, however, will decline by 4% from 2020 to 2030. “Employment of these workers will depend primarily on future changes to federal, state, and local government budgets,” according to the BLS. “Budget reductions in recent years have resulted in decreased hiring for the agencies that employ these workers,” and should account for 2,100 lost jobs within the field by 2030.
